Isabel Asha Penzlien was born and raised in Hamburg, Germany. She first discovered her love of the camera after her father introduced her to a Hasselblad as a young girl. This discovery eventually lead her all the way to New York where she enrolled as a student at the International Center of Photography back in 1995. Although she admits to always being able to appreciate a good German beer, Isabel now considers herself a true New Yorker. Her work has appeared in various publications, including Catholic, The Guardian, I-D, Index and Teen Vogue. Currently she is working on a book with Forthysian Press, to be released by the end of the year..
